All of our staff hold relevant childcare qualifications, which consists of NVQ Level 5 in Childcare and Management, NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Childcare, NVQ Level 2 in Childcare, NNEB, Childcare & Education Level 3, Level 3 Playwork or equivalent qualifications.
As well as their main childcare qualifications, all staff hold certificates for and/or have had training in paediatric first aid, safeguarding (child protection), food hygiene, female genital mutilation and Prevent (extremism awareness). Individual staff have also completed training as required for their role including, but not limited to, leadership and management, baby room leader, traffic light tool (sexual awareness in children), fire wardens, well being, online safety, child development and so on.
All staff, regardless of qualification and status, are regularly checked for their suitability for working with children with the 'Disclosure and Barring Service', police checks that ensure that staff have no criminal records.
We
operate a successful ‘Key Worker’ system where every single day for you and your child(ren), the
same team member will greet, provide care and then give feedback and information at
the end of the session!

Sarah has over 20 years of childcare experience, working as a childcare assistant and deputy and manager of other day nurseries before opening Little Chums in 2007 and Cyfeillion Bach in 2013. Sarah has a Level 4 childcare qualification and an NNEB.

Nicola has over 20 years of childcare experience, working as a childcare assistant and deputy of other day nurseries before opening Little Chums in 2007 and Cyfeillion Bach in 2013. Nicola has a Level 4 childcare qualification, an NNEB and a Level 3 in Playwork.
Chantelle has over 20 years of experience in education and childcare. She has managed both school and independent nurseries, as well as being a former manager of a Children’s Centre in Newport and Operational Manager for Flying Start in Newport. Chantelle has a Level 4/5 in Childcare, a Level 5 Management qualification and Level 3 qualification in Playwork.
Teacher / Business Manager
Andrew has almost 25 years of experience in education and childcare, working as a primary school teacher for 15 years. He is inspection trained and holds a B.A. teaching degree with fully qualified teacher status. Andrew also has Level 5 Management and Level 3 Playwork qualifications.

Hollie joined Little Chums in 2016, after being with us on a college placement for 6 months as a student and volunteer. She is Level 4 qualified in Childcare

Caitlin spent 6 months with us on a student placement, while completing her Level 2 qualification with Coleg Gwent. We rewarded her hard work with a full time position in July 2023! She is now working towards her Level 3 Childcare.
